If you’ve ever had a beach umbrella fly away at the smallest gust of wind, you know why we’re excited about these clip-on shades. Here’s what you need to know before you try one.

Universal clip-on umbrellas can generally be attached to any slim tubular or squared pole such as a chair back, hammock stand, golf bag or wheelchair arm. That said, clamps are made differently by different companies, so you may have to experiment before finding the exact right fit. Look for a brand that offers a generous return policy, just in case the model you buy doesn’t quite work.

If you’re going to use your shade exclusively on a traditional beach chair, consider a shade that is made for that purpose. Some models clip directly on the bars of a beach chair for a secure fit and super easy setup and removal.

If you don’t need much coverage, consider a fun little shade that can be attached with flexible tubing anywhere you need it to go. Again, these are very small shades—just meant to offer a little relief for your sun-sensitive face...or a blended tropical drink you don’t want to melt too fast.
